The Ashinaga Africa Initiative (AAI) is an international leadership program that cultivates the next generation of leaders to contribute to the development of sub-Saharan Africa. AAI Scholars come from disadvantaged backgrounds and are committed to returning to the Continent to initiate change, innovation, and development. The AAI provides financial support for international uni degrees, along with leadership training and guidance that Scholars need to become changemakers in their communities.

Challenge

Only 9.4% of young people from sub-Saharan African countries enroll in university. This can fall as low as 2% for those from disadvantaged backgrounds. We believe access to higher education is the most effective way to reach a fair and prosperous society. We think the most effective developments in Africa will be led by individuals from the region. Our mission is to give Scholars the tools they need to foster their leadership skills and approach issues they have identified in the Continent.

Long-Term Impact

We aim to empower a generation of leaders committed to long-lasting solutions. We expect 90% of students to directly contribute to one of the SDGs. Access to higher education, leadership training, and career development constitute our recipe for developing talented young people that the world needs. Your support is an investment in a generation of leaders, committed to dedicating their careers to achieve sustainable development.
